vCenter sessions monitoring

vCenter sessions monitoring tracks and analyzes user sessions in the VMware vCenter Server. The performance metrics of vCenter sessions provide insight into session activity and overall system health. When a user logs in to the vCenter Server using the vSphere Client, vSphere Web Client, or any other management interface, a session is created to interact with the vCenter Server. Monitoring vCenter sessions helps maintain security, compliance, performance, and efficiency in vSphere environments for smooth operations and minimal disruptions.

Prerequisites

  • Install an On-Premise Poller (version 5.1.3 and above).
  • Ensure your VMware account has either read-only or administrator permissions. Session privileges are required for full functionality.
  • Enable Browse and Config privileges for the specific vCenter instance. Ensure the discovery option for vCenter sessions is enabled when adding or editing a vCenter monitor.

Adding a vCenter Sessions monitor

vCenter sessions can be easily discovered after adding a vCenter monitor.

To add a vCenter Sessions monitor to an existing vCenter monitor:

  • Log in to Site24x7.
  • Click the name of the vCenter monitor to open it.
  • On the monitor's dashboard, click the hamburger icon near the monitor name, then click Edit.
  • In the form that opens up, select Yes for vCenter Sessions under Discover and Auto-add Resources.
  • Click Save
