How to Monitor Virtual Private Network in Huawei Cloud
Site24x7 monitors Huawei Cloud's Virtual Private Network (VPN), providing insights into bandwidth, packet rates, utilization, and connections so that you can detect saturation and connectivity issues early.
Use cases
Bandwidth control: Prevent tunnel degradation by monitoring send and receive bandwidth. This allows for timely scaling before capacity limits affect performance.
Capacity planning: Optimize gateway sizing by monitoring bandwidth utilization. This helps identify sustained high-use patterns and plan upgrades effectively.
Connection stability: Early detection of tunnel failures is possible by monitoring connection counts, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity between cloud and on-premises networks.
Setup and configuration
Virtual Private Network resources are auto-discovered and monitored during the Huawei Cloud integration. To enable monitoring, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to Cloud > Huawei > Add Huawei Monitor. Learn how to add a Huawei Cloud monitor.
- While adding or editing a Huawei Cloud monitor, select VPN from the Service/Resource Types drop-down and click Save.
- Navigate to Cloud > Huawei, select the created Huawei monitor, and then click Virtual Private Network.

Threshold configuration
You can configure thresholds and alerts for all VPN metrics to detect performance degradation proactively or connection issues.
- Go to Admin > Configuration Profiles > Threshold and Availability.
- Create or edit your Threshold Profile for VPN.
- Assign the profile to the respective monitors to trigger alerts.
IT Automation
Use Site24x7's IT Automation to resolve common issues with VPN performance:
- Go to Admin >IT Automation Templates. Then, click Add Automation Templates.
- Create an automation rule by selecting the automation Type (e.g., Server reboot, clear queue).
- Map the created rules to the VPN, for automatic execution during alerts.
Configuration rules
Use Configuration Rules to simplify bulk setup across VPN instances. Automatically assign Threshold Profiles, Notification Profiles, Tags, and Monitor Groups when new monitors are discovered.
