How to Monitor Elastic IP address in Huawei Cloud

Site24x7 monitors Elastic IP address (EIP) bandwidth and traffic metrics in real time, giving network teams instant visibility into public-facing connectivity health. Automated threshold alerts ensure bandwidth saturation and abnormal traffic spikes are caught before they impact application availability.

Use case

Saturation prevention: When upstream bandwidth usage crosses 85%, Site24x7 alerts the network team to scale EIP capacity before end users experience connection throttling or packet loss.

Cost optimization: Continuous traffic volume trending helps teams identify over-provisioned EIP bandwidth allocations and right-size them during the next billing cycle.

Anomaly detection: A sudden spike in downstream traffic triggers an immediate alert, allowing security teams to investigate potential DDoS activity before it overwhelms the origin server.

Setup and configuration

EIP resources are auto-discovered and monitored during the Huawei Cloud integration. To enable monitoring, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to Cloud > Huawei > Add Huawei Monitor. Learn how to add a Huawei Cloud monitor.
  • While adding or editing a Huawei Cloud monitor, select EIP from the Service/Resource Types drop-down menu and click Save.
  • Go to Cloud > Huawei. Then, select the created Huawei monitor.
  • Click EIP to view the performance metrics.

Supported metrics

Bandwidth

Metric name

Description

Unit

Upstream Bandwidth The rate of outbound data transmission from the cloud resource to the internet via the EIP. Mbps
Downstream Bandwidth The rate of inbound data transmission from the internet to the cloud resource via the EIP. Mbps
Upstream Bandwidth Usage The percentage of the provisioned upstream bandwidth that is being utilized. Percentage
Downstream Bandwidth Usage The percentage of the provisioned downstream bandwidth that is being utilized. Percentage

Traffic

Metric name

Description

Unit

Upstream Traffic The total volume of outbound data transferred from the cloud resource to the internet through the EIP over a given time period. Bytes
Downstream Traffic The total volume of inbound data transferred from the internet to the cloud resource through the EIP over a given time period. Bytes

Threshold configuration

You can configure thresholds and alerts for all EIP metrics to proactively detect performance degradation or connection issues.

  1. Go to Admin > Configuration Profiles > Threshold and Availability.
  2. Create or modify your alert profiles.
  3. Assign them to specific EIP monitors to receive alerts on anomalies.

IT Automation

Use Site24x7's IT Automation to resolve common issues with EIP performance automatically:

  • Go to Admin > IT Automation Templates> Add Automation Templates.
  • Create an automation rule by selecting the automation Type (e.g., Server reboot, clear queue).
  • Map it to the EIP monitor for automatic execution during alerts.

Configuration rules

You can streamline monitor setup for multiple EIPs using Configuration Rules. These rules allow you to apply the following automatically:

  • Threshold profiles
  • Notification profiles
  • Tags
  • Monitor group associations

Run a scan and associate the rule that matches your resource configurations when new EIP monitors are added.
