Heartbleed is a security vulnerability that affected a widely used encryption protocol called OpenSSL. This vulnerability allowed attackers to potentially access sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and other confidential data that was supposed to be protected by the encryption. The vulnerability was caused by a flaw in the way the encryption protocol handled a certain type of request, allowing attackers to exploit it and obtain information from the memory of the affected system.
