Performance metrics of VMware NSX-T Manager

View the performance metrics of your VMware NSX-T Manager to understand session activity and system health. This enables you to take proactive measures and enhance the efficiency of your VMware NSX-T environment setup. Add a VMware NSX-T Manager to get started with monitoring.

To view your configured VMware NSX-T Manager monitor in Site24x7:

  • Navigate to Admin > Inventory > Monitors or go to VMware > NSX-T Resources > NSX-T Manager.
  • Select the desired server to view the monitor health.

Interpreting VMware NSX-T Manager performance metrics

  • Host Summary: This tab displays the total number of sessions (both active and idle) and their information at various time intervals. Provides a detailed overview of Management Node Details, configuration and performance details of Firewall policies, IP Pool, and Transport Zone Details.
  • Firewall Configuration Details: Provides an overview of firewall policies configured in NSX-T Manager, that includes Firewall Policy Type, Category, Rule Count, Sequence Number, and Popularity Index.
  • Firewall Performance Details: List of the real-time traffic statistics and performance metrics of firewall policies.
  • IP Pool Details: Displays a detailed status of IP address pool utilization within the NSX environment.
  • Transport Zone Details: Lists the Transport Zone Name, ID, Type, Number of Logical Switches, Number of Logical Ports, and Number of Logical Transport Nodes associated in the NSX-T Manager. This provides visibility into network scale and transport participation.
  • Gateways: This tab displays the snapshot of NSX-T Gateway health and connectivity helping the administrators to quickly identify the traffic flow. The NSX-T Gateway are of two types, namely:
    • Tier 0: Top-level routing gateway that connects the virtual environment to the physical or external network.
    • Tier 1: Logical router gateway that connects application segments and workloads within the NSX environment.
  • Edge Nodes: This tab displays an overview of the NSX-T Edge Node health, resource usage and connectivity ensures reliable traffic handling of NSX-T Node related network issues.
  • Transport Node: This tab displays an overview of the NSX-T Transport Node health, memory utilization and connectivity ensuring stable and responsive NSX fabric.

Host Summary

Metrics Description Units
Availability Displays the current availability status of the NSX-T Manager. Percentage
Firewalls Displays the number of times a firewall instance is configured and active. Count
IP Pools Displays the number of IP address pools configured for NSX-T Manager. Count
Transport Zones Displays the number of defined transport zones enabling communication between NSX-T Components. Count
Event Timelines Displays a visual representation of past events, including those labeled as Down, Critical, Trouble, Maintenance, Anomaly, or Suspended. Timeline
Updates Displays details of the associated On-Premise Poller, if any. Details
Associated Gateways Displays the number of gateways connected to NSX-T Manager and their status. Count
Associated Edge Nodes Displays the number of edge nodes associated to NSX-T Manager and their status. Count
Associated Transport Nodes Displays the number of transport nodes associated to NSX-T Manager and their status. Count
Management Node Details Displays about the NSX-T Manager's Node details such as Node Name, Node FQDN, CPU Cores, Total Disk Space, Used Disk Space, Total Memory, Used Memory, Total Swap Memory, Used Swap Memory, and Load Average. View up to three VMs details. Details, count, GB and average
Disk Usage Displays a graph with the current usage of disk space compared to the total available space. Gigabyte
Memory Usage Displays a graph with the current memory usage compared to the total available memory. Gigabyte
Swap Memory Usage Displays a graph with the amount of swap space being utilized compared to the total available memory. Kilobyte
Load Average Displays a graph with average system load time. Average count
Firewall Configuration Details
Firewall Policy Name Displays name of the firewall policy configured in NSX-T Manager. Text
Firewall Policy Type Displays the type of firewall policy (e.g., security policy, gateway policy). Text
Firewall Rule Count Displays the total number of firewall rules defined in the firewall policy. Count
Firewall Sequence Number Displays the priority sequence of the firewall policy (the lower the count the faster it runs). Number
Firewall Popularity Index Displays the frequently hit firewall traffic policy. Number
Maximum Firewall Popularity Index Displays the highest recorded popularity index for the firewall policy. Number
Firewall Performance Details
Firewall Policy ID Displays the list of firewall policy identification. Unique ID
Firewall Policy Name Displays the firewall policy name. Text
Packet Count Displays the total number of packets processed by the firewall policy. Count
Byte Count Displays the total volume of data processed. Megabyte
Session Count Displays the number of traffic sessions evaluated. Count
Hit Count Displays the number of times firewall rules are matched. Count
Accept Count Displays the number of sessions accepted by the firewall. Count
Reject Count Displays the number of sessions rejected by the firewall. Count
Reject With Response Count Displays the number of rejected sessions by the firewall where the response was sent. Count
Maximum Session Count Displays the maximum number of concurrent sessions of the firewall policy. Count
Total Session Count Displays the total session count of the firewall policy. Count
IP Pool Details
IP Pool Name Displays the name of the configured IP pool. Text
IP Pool ID Displays the unique identifier of the IP pool. Unique ID
IP Address Type Displays the type of IP address (e.g., IPv4, IPv6). Text
Total IPs Displays the total number of IP addresses available in the pool. Count
Requested IP Allocations Displays the number of IP allocation requested. Count
Allocated IP Allocations Displays the number of IPs currently allocated. Count
Available IPs Displays the total number of IPs available for allocation. Count
Transport Zone Details
Transport Zone Name Displays the name of the NSX-T transport zone. Text
Transport Zone ID Displays the unique identifier of the transport zone. Unique ID
Transport Zone Type Displays the type of transport zone (e.g., Overlay, VLAN). Text
Number of Logical Switches Displays the logical switches created in the transport zone. Count
Number of Logical Ports Displays the logical ports associated with switches. Count
Number of Logical Transport Nodes Displays the number of hosts or nodes participating in the transport zone. Count

Gateways

The Gateways tab displays the connectivity of VMware NSX-T Gateways. Clicking on the gateway name will open the performance metrics of the respective monitor.

Metrics Description Units
Name Displays the name VMware NSX-T Gateway names for identification. Text
Status Displays the color coded Up, Down, Critical status of the NSX-T Gateway, indicating the health of the NSX-T Gateway monitor. Status
Connectivity Displays the connectivity status of the VMware NSX-T Gateway, as well as whether it is connected, disconnected, or null status. Status

Nodes

  • Edge Nodes: This tab will provide you the status, management of server IP, load balancing, and memory utilization of edge nodes. On clicking on the edge node name will open the performance metrics of the respective monitor.
  • Transport Nodes: This tab will provide an overview of the transport node health, capacity, and performance. Clicking on the transport node name will open the performance metrics of the respective transport node monitor.
Metrics Description Units
Name Displays the name NSX-T Edge Node name for identification. Text
Status Displays the current health of the NSX-T Edge Node with a color coded Up, Down, or Critical status. Status
IP Address Displays the IP address assigned to the edge node. IP address
Management Server IP Displays the IP address of the NSX-T Manager details that manages the NSX-T Edge Node. IP address
Memory Utilization Displays the percentage of memory that is currently used by the NSX-T Edge Node. Percentage
Load Average Displays the average system load over the defined time interval. Average count
Disk Utilization Displays the disk space consumed on the NSX-T Edge Node. Percentage
