Performance metrics of a NetApp ONTAP (Cluster) storage monitor

Site24x7 allows you to monitor detailed disk-level performance metrics for your NetApp ONTAP (Cluster) storage devices. Tracking disk usage helps you prevent capacity issues, optimize storage, and ensure consistent system performance.

Viewing performance metrics

  1. Navigate to Home > Monitors and select your NetApp monitor.

  2. Go to the Disk tab.

  3. Each disk listed will show the following:

    • Name

    • Total Size

    • Used Size

    • Free Size

    • Utilization (%)

    • Status

  1. Click the Disk Name to view the performance metrics graphs for that disk.

  2. Click each metric value to view the attribute report for that metric.

  3. Click the pencil icon  in the Action column to set threshold values for that disk.

Performance metrics table

Metric Description Unit Why it matters
Disk Name Identifier of the disk or mount point. Text Used to differentiate between multiple disks on a system.
Disk Total Size Total capacity of the disk. GB/TB Helps assess the overall storage provisioned.
Disk Used Size Amount of space currently occupied on the disk. GB/TB Indicates how much space is in use.
Disk Free Size Remaining usable space on the disk. GB/TB Critical for preventing storage-related outages.
Disk Utilization (%) Percentage of disk space used. Percentage Quick indicator of disk health and capacity status.

Best practices

  • Regularly review disk usage trends to avoid surprises.

  • Correlate disk growth with application activity or user behavior.
