Firmware Version History Report

The Firmware Version History report in Site24x7's Network Configuration Manager (NCM) gives administrators a complete audit trail of firmware version changes across all monitored network devices. By tracking every OS type, OS version, and the exact time each one was recorded, you can validate upgrade outcomes, detect unauthorized firmware changes, and maintain an accurate inventory of your network's software state over time.

Use cases

  • Verify that a planned firmware upgrade was applied successfully across target devices.
  • Detect unauthorized or unexpected firmware changes that may indicate a security incident.
  • Maintain a version history inventory for compliance audits and change management reviews.
  • Compare firmware states across devices grouped under the same vendor or device template.
  • Track rollback events to confirm that a device was restored to its previous firmware version.

Generating the report

  1. Log in to your Site24x7 account.
  2. Navigate to Reports > NCM Device > Firmware Version History Report.
  3. The report loads with all monitored devices listed under the Ungrouped section by default.
  4. Use the Group by drop-down menu to organize results by a specific attribute (for example, vendor or device template).
  5. Click Add Filters to narrow results by a specific device, vendor, IP address, or OS version.
  6. Expand a device entry to view its full firmware version history, including the OS type, OS version, and the timestamp for each recorded state.
  7. Click Share This to export the report as a CSV or PDF file, email it, or schedule it to be generated at regular intervals.

Report columns

The report displays the following columns for each device entry.

Column Description
Display Name The name assigned to the NCM device in Site24x7.
IP Address The IP address of the monitored device.
Vendor Name The device manufacturer (for example, Cisco).
Device Template The device template applied to the monitor (for example, Cisco IOS Router).

For each firmware version record within a device, the following sub-columns appear.

Column Description
OS Type The operating system type running on the device (for example, Cisco IOS or a Linux distro).
OS Version The specific firmware or OS version string detected (for example, 15.2(4)S5).
Updated Time The date and time at which this firmware version was recorded by Site24x7.

Best practices

  • Review version history after every planned upgrade: Confirm that the correct OS version appears in the history at the expected timestamp to validate that the upgrade completed successfully.
  • Use Group by to spot version inconsistencies: Group by vendor or device template to quickly identify devices that are running outdated firmware compared to others in the same category.
  • Set up filters for critical devices: Apply device-specific filters to focus the report on high-priority network infrastructure such as core routers and distribution switches.
  • Schedule regular report exports: Use the Share This option to schedule automated exports so that your team always has an up-to-date firmware version record for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Correlate with configuration change reports: Cross-reference the Firmware Version History report with the Configuration Changes report to identify whether a configuration change accompanied a firmware update.
