How to monitor Virtual Private Cloud Peering in DigitalOcean

Site24x7 monitors the availability and connection state of your DigitalOcean Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) Peering relationships, providing real-time visibility into the health of cross-VPC connectivity.

This monitor tracks whether the peering connection is active and routing traffic correctly, alerting you to error states such as provisioning failures or unknown conditions that could silently break private network connectivity between resources.

Use case

Connectivity status: The Summary tab displays the current status and availability of your VPC Peering connections in real time. This feature enables network teams to quickly identify connectivity disruptions between VPCs and take action to resolve them.

Downtime trends: By monitoring Downtime instances and their frequency, you can determine whether a peering connection is often unstable. This information helps you decide whether to review the setup or escalate the issue for further investigation.

SLA compliance: Availability data lets you track network uptime against your SLA commitments, making it easier to report on and validate performance for environments that depend on private VPC connections.

Setup and configuration

VPC Peering resources are auto-discovered and monitored during the DigitalOcean integration. To enable monitoring, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Cloud > DigitalOcean > Add DigitalOcean Monitor. Follow the steps to add a DigitalOcean monitor.
  2. While adding or editing a DigitalOcean monitor, select VPC Peering from the Service/Resource Types drop-down and click Save.
  3. Go to Cloud > DigitalOcean, select the created DigitalOcean monitor, then click VPC Peering.
Note

VPC Peering will be discovered during the next discovery cycle according to the discovery frequency you selected during DigitalOcean monitor creation.

Data collection frequency

Based on the selected poll interval, performance metrics of your DigitalOcean VPC Peering will be collected every two minutes and updated in the Site24x7 portal every five minutes by default.

Supported metrics

Summary

The Summary report shows how your VPC Peering connections are performing, including uptime, outages, and downtime. It also indicates the status Up when the connection is active and Down when it's disrupted or unavailable, helping you easily keep track of your network connectivity.
