How to monitor Firewalls in DigitalOcean

Site24x7 monitors the availability and configuration of your DigitalOcean Cloud Firewalls, offering real-time insights into whether your firewall is active and properly configured. This monitoring tool tracks the operational status of the firewall and updates on state transitions, such as resource deletion, unknown states, or provisioning errors.

By observing these metrics, you can ensure that any potential gaps in firewall coverage are identified immediately.

Use case

Resource availability: The Summary tab provides a quick snapshot of the firewall's status, including availability, downtime frequency, and SLA performance, helping IT teams to spot issues early and take action before they impact traffic or security.

Downtime accountability: Keep track of total downtime and incident counts over time to identify recurring issues, making it easier to review past incidents and share clear, audit-ready SLA reports with stakeholders.

Proactive alerting: Monitor the firewall's status in real time and receive instant alerts when it goes down, helping you reduce risk and allowing teams to restore protection quickly before it affects other services.

Setup and configuration

Firewalls resources are auto-discovered and monitored during the DigitalOcean integration. To enable monitoring, follow the steps below:

  • Navigate to Cloud > DigitalOcean > Add DigitalOcean Monitor. Follow the steps to add a DigitalOcean monitor.
  • While adding or editing a DigitalOcean monitor, select Firewalls from the Service/Resource Types drop-down and click Save.
  • Go to Cloud > DigitalOcean, select the created DigitalOcean monitor, and then click Firewalls.
Note

Firewalls will be discovered during the next discovery cycle in accordance with the frequency selected during the DigitalOcean monitor creation.

Data collection frequency

Based on the selected poll interval, performance metrics of your DigitalOcean Firewalls will be collected every two minutes and updated in the Site24x7 portal every five minutes by default.

Supported metrics

Summary

The Summary report shows how your DigitalOcean Firewalls have been performing, including uptime, outages, and total downtime for the selected period. It also displays the status Up when the firewall is running and reachable, and Down when there's an issue or it's not accessible, so that you can quickly understand its protection status.
