Alibaba Cloud PolarDB for PostgreSQL Monitoring Integration

Site24x7 provides comprehensive monitoring for Alibaba Cloud PolarDB for PostgreSQL, giving detailed insights into compute, memory, I/O throughput, session activity, and transaction performance. After integrating your Alibaba Cloud account with Site24x7, all PolarDB for PostgreSQL instances are automatically discovered and monitored.

Use cases

  • Resource optimization: Monitor CPU, memory, and I/O utilization to prevent resource bottlenecks.
  • Performance monitoring: Track TPS, QPS, slow queries, and long-running transactions to optimize workloads.
  • Connection management: Analyze active, idle, and total connections to prevent session saturation.
  • Replication and latency insights: Detect replication lag and transaction delays to ensure data consistency.
  • Automation and alerts: Configure thresholds and IT automation for proactive remediation.

Setup and configuration

  • Log in to your Site24x7 account and navigate to Cloud > Alibaba Cloud > Add Monitor.
  • In the Edit Alibaba Cloud Monitor page, select PolarDB for PostgreSQL from the Service Types list.
  • Once added, go to Cloud > Alibaba > PolarDB for PostgreSQL to view dashboards and performance metrics.

PostgreSQL PLS WAL Directory Size The total size of WAL files in the cluster. Bytes
PostgreSQL Blocks Read Delta The number of blocks read from disk during queries. Count
PostgreSQL Memory Usage The total memory used by PostgreSQL processes. Bytes
PostgreSQL Swell Time The total execution delay caused by query swell. Milliseconds

Threshold configuration

  1. Go to Admin > Configuration Profiles > Threshold and Availability.
  2. Create or edit a threshold profile for PolarDB for PostgreSQL.
  3. Assign the profile to the respective monitors to trigger alerts.

IT automation

Site24x7's IT Automation tools help with automatically resolving performance degradation issues. When a breach occurs, the alarm engine continuously examines the system events for which thresholds have been defined and performs the mapped automation.

  1. Go to Admin > IT Automation Templates.
  2. Create a new automation rule.
  3. Map the rule to the monitor for proactive resolution.

Configuration rules

With Site24x7's Configuration Rules, you can set parameters like Threshold Profile, Notification Profile, Tags, and Monitor Group for multiple monitors and automate the configuration settings of your monitoring resources. Automatically assign these settings when new PolarDB for PostgreSQL monitors are added.
