Add a DHCP server monitor

Add a DHCP server monitor in Site24x7 to track the availability and scope utilization of your DHCP servers in real time. Site24x7 supports monitoring for Microsoft Active Directory, Palo Alto Firewall, Linux servers, Cisco Routers, and Fortinet Firewalls using the On-Premise Poller.

Prerequisites

Ensure the following before adding a DHCP server monitor.

  • On-Premise Poller version: 6.9.0 or above. To check your version, go to Admin > On-Premise Poller in your Site24x7 account.
  • Network connectivity: The DHCP server must be reachable from the machine where the On-Premise Poller is installed.
  • Credentials – SNMP devices: SNMP v2c community string or SNMPv3 credentials. Required for Palo Alto Firewall, Linux server, Cisco Router, and Fortinet Firewall.
  • Credentials – Microsoft AD: Windows domain credentials with read access to DHCP server data. Supported only when the On-Premise Poller is installed on a Windows machine.
  • Firewall rules: Ensure SNMP (UDP port 161) or WMI traffic is allowed between the On-Premise Poller and the DHCP server.

Add a DHCP server monitor

  1. Log in to Site24x7.
  2. Go to Network > DHCP Server.
  3. Click the plus icon beside DHCP Server.
  4. In the Add DHCP Server Monitor form, fill in the required fields.

    The following fields are available when you add or edit a DHCP server monitor.

    Basic info

    Field Description
    Display Name A unique, descriptive name for the DHCP server monitor. This name appears in dashboards, alerts, and reports.
    On-Premise Poller Select the On-Premise Poller used to collect data from the DHCP server. Only Pollers running version 6.8.5 or above are listed. The Poller must have network access to the DHCP server.
    IP Address / Hostname The IP address or hostname of the DHCP server to be monitored. Enter the IP address or the fully qualified domain name (FQDN).
    Device Type The type of device running the DHCP service. Select one of Microsoft Active Directory, Palo Alto Firewall, Linux Server, Cisco Router, or Fortinet Firewall. The device type determines the collection method and the credential fields displayed.

    Monitoring credentials

    The fields in this section depend on the Device Type selected.

    Device type Fields displayed
    Microsoft Active Directory Domain, Username, Password. Enter Windows domain credentials with read access to DHCP server data. Supported only when the On-Premise Poller is installed on a Windows machine.
    Palo Alto Firewall, Linux Server, Cisco Router, Fortinet Firewall SNMP Version, Community String (v2c) or SNMPv3 credentials. For SNMP v2c, enter the community string. For SNMPv3, enter the Username, Authentication Protocol, Authentication Password, Privacy Protocol, and Privacy Password.
    Note

    If your SNMP device uses a non-default port (other than UDP 161), enter the port number in the Port field.

    Monitoring preferences

    Field Description
    Check Frequency How often Site24x7 polls the DHCP server. Default is five minutes. Available intervals are 1, 5, 10, 15, 30, 60, 120, 360, 720, and 1,440 minutes.
    Monitor From Location Not applicable. DHCP server monitoring uses the On-Premise Poller and does not require a public monitoring location.
    Timeout Time, in seconds, to wait for a response from the DHCP server before marking the poll as failed. Default is ten seconds.

    Configuration profiles

    Field Description
    Threshold Profile Select a threshold profile to define warning and critical alert conditions for DHCP scope utilization and server availability. To create a new profile, go to Admin > Configuration Profiles > Threshold and Availability.
    Notification Profile Select a notification profile to control who is alerted and when. To create a new profile, go to Admin > Configuration Profiles > Notification Profiles.
    Monitor Group Assign the monitor to a monitor group for organized dashboards and group-level reporting.
    Tag Add tags to classify and filter this monitor in dashboards and reports.
    IT Automation Associate IT automation templates to trigger automated remediation actions when the monitor's status changes.
  5. Click Save.

After saving, the monitor appears under Network > DHCP Servers in the left navigation panel. Site24x7 begins polling the DHCP server at the configured check frequency.

Edit or delete a monitor

Edit a monitor

  1. Go to Network > DHCP Servers.
  2. Click the DHCP server monitor you want to edit.
  3. Click the Edit icon (pencil icon) at the top of the monitor detail page.
  4. Update the required fields and click Save.

Delete a monitor

  1. Go to Network > DHCP Servers.
  2. Click the DHCP server monitor you want to delete.
  3. Click the More Actions icon (three-dot menu) at the top of the monitor detail page.
  4. Select Delete and confirm the deletion.

Tip: Deleting a monitor removes all associated historical data and alert history. This action cannot be undone.
