Automatically detect active ports per server?

Hi Team -

A lot of the services I need to monitor are through ports. Therefore, I am manually setting up all the ports in 24x7 that pertain to the processes I need to monitor.  Is there a way to install the msiexec.exe and have it automatically detect active ports, create the Resource profile for each port, and begin monitoring?

There are normally 15 ports per server I am currently configuring.

Thanks!

hi,

We have the Server Monitoring feature which monitors and provides critical metrics for continous performance of the server. We also have an additional feature of monitoring resources like processes, services, ports, event logs, syslogs etc.,

For your requirement, you can create a Resource Check profile in which you can add all the ports that needs to be monitored and automatically assign it to all the servers. The server monitor will check and monitor those ports and alert if there is any status change on port's status.

Currently we don't have the option to automatically discover all the active ports, instead we have the Resource Check Profile where you can add all the ports, so that whenever a server monitor is added automatically, those ports will be monitored.

Please find our help documentation on server monitoring and resource check profile:
Note : We will take this automatic discovery of resource checks as a feature request and will update you on the same at the earliest.

Thank you for your reply!  That makes sense. I do have an additional questrion.

Due the amount of servers I have, it would take forever to set up the ports on each server as some ports may not exist on other servers.  If I configure a master Resource Check profile and tag it all my servers, will it consider the port to be "down" or in "trouble" if it can't find it? Or will it just ignore it? I just want to know before I do this.

Thank you!!

When a resource check profile is created and assigned to a server, it will check if all the checks i.e. the ports configured in the profile are active. Even if any one of the ports is not active , then its status is marked as down.

I guess we could do this smarter. Atleast for the first time, so that you can bulk add ports for checking.

Another options is Site24x7 can accept  a list of ports at a global level with which we auto-discover ports for adding as resource checks. Just like how processes are supported or added today.
