What is UPS monitoring?

UPS monitoring is the process of monitoring the different metrics of UPS devices in a network, including voltage, current, battery status, and charge, so they are always up, available, and working. Monitoring critical performance metrics is crucial for maintenance, uptime, and to upgrade your power system to handle extended outages.

Performance metrics for complete power supply monitoring

Batteries, the heart of a UPS, can encounter issues due to impedance or conductance, along with aging issues. Capacitors, fans, and filters also deteriorate in performance in due course. Furthermore, UPSs are also susceptible to redundant power supplies, overheating, and dust, which means these pieces of hardware require round-the-clock monitoring and maintenance.

Keeping track of key UPS performance metrics will ensure that your device is up and your network functions are fully sustained. You can also take quick corrective actions based on insights gained from monitoring. Below is a list of some of the metrics Site24x7 provides. You can also monitor any attribute by providing the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) object IDs (OIDs).

  • Input line voltage: The measured input voltage from the UPS meters in volts.
  • Input source: The measured UPS output current in amps.
  • Output voltage: The number of disks that are currently broken.
  • Charge: Battery percent charge available.
  • Load: The total power load used from the UPS calculated in kVA.
  • Battery status: The status of the UPS batteries.
  • Humidity: The humidity level in the UPS.
  • Battery current: Battery current as reported by the UPS metering. Current is positive when discharging, and negative when recharging the battery.
  • Estimated charge remaining: An estimate of the battery charge remaining expressed as a percent of full charge.
  • Time remaining: Battery run time in seconds before UPS turns off due to low battery.
  • Temperature: The temperature of the UPS device.

Out-of-the-box support for UPS devices from different vendors

Unified UPS monitoring tool for all your power backups

SNMP-based custom monitoring

Monitor the performance of any UPS device from any vendor. Just enter the system object identifier (sysOID), and obtain full-fledged custom SNMP monitoring to monitor any custom metric of your choice.

SNMP traps for instant alerts

Configure your UPSs to send traps to Site24x7 so you can receive instant notifications with a processed trap message once an issue is detected. SNMP traps work best for sudden voltage drops and all such unexpected issues.

Threshold limits to avert issues

Create topology maps to view your network connections and interconnections. View top devices and interfaces on a health dashboard, and create custom dashboards to obtain a glimpse of key metrics of your choice. Also, generate custom reports for in-depth analysis.

Maps, reports, and dashboards

Generate performance reports for in-depth analysis. Configure and process trap messages instantly to stay on top of your device issues. Receive alerts on different mediums of your choice.
