Showing current status on a map

It would be nice to have all the inventory have an optional attribute called location (address where the physical asset is located e.g a router. switch, server etc) and then have the ability to dynamically plot the current status of desired inventory (e.g. all members of one or more monitoring group) on goggle map. We, and many of your customers, work in a distributed environment and thus would be great to have that visual capability in the monitoring tool.

I know there is current capability to draw it against some map in the background (in the form of an image). But its not dynamic and thus very laborious to create and maintain.

Dear community members and Ash,

We have a few questions related to this anyone from the community can comment on it.

1. What would be the no.of inventory you expect to plot in a map.

2. Are these customer locations or branch offices or DCs in different regions?.

3. What kind of boundary do different location require? country / state / city based visibility?

Hi Jasper,

pl see below:

1. What would be the no.of inventory you expect to plot in a map.  -

It will vary based on customer to customer. For me it will be  3-4 inventory, 1 router, 1 switch and 1-2 servers per branch. I have 100 branch offices.

2. Are these customer locations or branch offices or DCs in different regions?.

For me its branch offices. Yes, DCs are in a different location. I don't think you can plot DCs on a map as we expect there will be 100s of inventories in a DC. Or may be allow to plot a monitoring group (representing inventories in a branch office, or DCs etc) on the map, that would help.

3. What kind of boundary do different location require? country / state / city based visibility?

For us its one state (NSW in Australia), but again it will vary customer to customer. You have to give the flexibility to a customer to set a zoom level that is suitable to that customer or suitable for a specific dashboard and maintain that zoom level and the geo-location.
