Process SMTPD warnings Linux Webservers

Hi all,

Last week I've installed the Site24x7 agent on my 3 Linux webservers running Centos 7 and Plesk. No problems, everything was fine.

All of a sudden monitoring went nuts complaining about the SMTPD process failing/not running. This is true because when mail is sent, the process pops up. When Postfix has delivered the mail, the process is stopped.

I rather check if a service like Postfix is active instead of a process. Any chance someone can give me some advice regarding the monitoring of services instead of processes.

Has anyone encountered such behaviour in the past? I've searched this forum (0 results), searched using Google (Non related to Site24x7 or no explanation how to configure the monitoring of SMTPD processes)

Here's an example of the error/warning message:

I'm having the same issue with Postfix and false positives.

Monitoring processes is nice, but what you really want to monitor is services. Which can't be too hard to implement, I think.

So +1 for service checks.

Hi ,

Thanks for your input.

As of now , we only provide the option to monitor processes in the server.

We will take up 'monitoring services' as a feature request and update in this thread once it is done.

Just a hint, whats about to check the open Port 25 on that specific host instead of an Process? To do this, O would use resource check profiles and relate that to the monitors.

Hi ,

Yes, to monitor a specific port on a server you can use our resource checks feature to monitor.
