Introducing VMware ESXi Hardware Monitoring

We are planning to introduce hardware monitoring as a new monitor type in Site24x7 VMware Monitoring.

Existing setup

The screenshot below shows how hardware-related metrics for ESXi hosts are currently displayed under the Hardware tab in Site24x7.

October 31, 2021

By October 31, 2021, we will be migrating these metrics to a new monitor type under VMware > VMware Resources > Hardware. All thresholds configured for hardware-related metrics in the VMware ESXi monitor will be deprecated by October 31, 2021.

For existing VMware ESXi monitors, the current hardware metrics will be automatically moved as a new VMware ESXi hardware monitor under VMware > VMware Resources > Hardware. For new VMware ESXi monitors, once the ESXi host is added, a new VMware ESXi hardware monitor will be added under VMware > VMware Resources > Hardware.

Why migrate as a new monitor type?

We have enhanced monitoring of hardware sensors with new features like:

  • Support for new sensor types like cables, systemboards, and Bios.
  • Detailed analysis including the status and count of all the hardware sensors.
  • Custom dashboards.
  • Threshold profiling for all metrics.

Let us know if you have comments on the upcoming new feature or any other specific requirements for hardware monitoring. If you'd like access to the beta version, email us at support@site24x7.com.

Mathangi

Will it consume an additional basic monitor license to activate this monitor?

Hi,

We are working on the licensing model for hardware monitoring. Ideally, the feature will be charged based on the number of hardware sensors monitored. For example, we are looking at charging 50 sensors as one basic monitor.

Please mail us at support@site24x7.com for early access to the feature.  Let us know your feedback/comments on this in the below thread.

So does that mean that hardware monitoring (for ESX hosts for example) will now consume licenses when previously was included in the esx monitor, i.e. it was free?

Hi,

Yes, the hardware sensors will be charged as a new monitor type, since we are bringing in enhancements to the feature (as mentioned in the above post).

Hope this helps. For any further clarification, please comment in the below thread.
