How to Restrict Monitor to Use IE (Internet Explorer) Only

SUMMARY: How to force a monitor of type RBM (RealBroswer) to always use IE (internet Explorer) only when loading a web page.

DETAILS:

I'm a newbie to site24x7monitor (the person who handles this is currently unavailable) and so I've been thrown into fixing something that I know very little about.

We have a monitor setup that consist of 2 steps.  The first is to load an aspx page and fill out data in 2 fields and the next step/action is to click the only button on that page.  I'm not %100 certain but IU believe the monitor is a RBM monitor.

The problem is I can't figure out how to force the monitor to always use IE only when loading the page detailed in step 1.  I am assuming that its trying to use Mozilla and I base that on the fact that the screenshot attached to each failed instance of the monitor shows the Mozilla browser border.  I know that the monitor is using IE most of the time because the monitor does not always fail but each time it does fail the screenshot (as viewed by clicking the icon of a camera included in the details of the failed monitor)  but as to which browser it uses and when is a mystery and we have to force it to always use IE only because the web page will not work with Mozilla no matter what version is used.

If there is no way to force an RBM Monitor to always use IE then is there another type of monitor that will do this and still also fill in the 2 fields on the page and click the button on the page?

Thanks

NOTE: The icon on the dashboard prompts 'RealBrowser' when I hover the cursor over the icon so I'm assuming that means that the monitor I am trying to fix is an RBM monitor.  If that not the case and or there is a way to explicitly verify the type of monitor please let me know.

The problem is with

Hello,

Real Browser Monitor uses FireFox browser for executing the transactions.
As we are yet to support IE for executing the web sequence, it is not possible to set the preference to use IE browser.

Alternatively, you could record a web application monitor using  Transaction recorder. Transaction Recorder uses IE in the backend for recording the sequence and the playback is done programmatically.

You can refer the following link to know the difference between Web Application Monitor and Real Browser Monitor

Vjay,

UPDATE: I forgot to mention this when I posted the below but the person who originally setup the monitor did so using a tool they downloaded from the site that is effectively a macro recorder. You start it up and then walk thru the exact steps you want it to take and then it saves those to the monitor. They don't recall the name of the tool but its sounds like the transaction recorder you are recommending. Not sure if this changes the answer to the below or not but want3ed to be sure to include it.

Thanks for replying to this.  What concerns and puzzles me about this is how the monitor can only be using Mozilla and yet fail only some of the time.  The web based application we use works only in IE and so when the monitor loads the specified aspx page it is the login page for this web based app.  This app uses IE for the front end and IIS7 for the back end (with the data storage residing on a SQL Server 2008R2 database).  Once the page loads the monitor populates the 2 fields on the page with the text we've provided.  In the next step/action (the monitor consists of 2 steps/actions)  it clicks the only button on the page.

The only way for the page to load so that the fields can be filled out is if it is being done using IE.  If this RBM monitor is using Mozilla only how is it the thing does not always fail?

BTW - If the above description of what this monitor does.is for indicates we are using the wrong type of monitor please let me know.  I did see where you suggested we look at the Web App Monitor but that recommendation may change based on this new/more detailed information about what we are trying to achieve with the monitor.

Thanks

Can you send a mail to Site24x7 Support (support at site24x7.com) from your registered email id with Site24x7 and also the monitor name. This will help us to identify what type of monitor that you are having and also I shall be able to check the logs on why the monitor fails at times.

Thanks,
-Vijay-
