How to determine the version of the current server agent that is available and find release notes?

Without downloading the server agent and installing it on a computer to see what version appears in the monitor list in the web application, how would a person best determine the version of the current server agent that is available to be downloaded/installed from the site24x7. Would it be possible for you list the version number on the page "Add Server > Windows Server Monitor"? -- the page where the Device Key is shown and the agent is downloaded.

Also, I cannot find release notes for each version of the server agent available anywhere. If release notes are not available, would it be possible for your team to start publishing some release notes for each version of the server agent. For example, some new version of the windows server agent apparently creates a whole new windows service called "Site24x7 Applog Agent". It would nice to know what your installer/agent upgrade is about to do to our production servers before it gets installed.

Assuming a Windows Server, you can check Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

That will show the version installed on the server.

I agree, the download page should mention what version you are downloading.

Thanks for the suggestion Bruce. We have taken the feedback. We will be show the agent version in the download page itself. We'll make it available soon.

Re: How to determine the version of the current server agent that is available and find release notes?

Hi,

We have a help document that lists down the new features, enhancements, and bug fixes for every new agent version that's released.

https://www.site24x7.com/help/server-agent-release-notes.html

Hope this helps. Let us know for further queries or assistance, if any.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link to the release notes.

I hope I don't sound too negative with the following, but it's just meant as feedback.

1). That link doesn't seem to be returned by searching www.site24x7.com/help/

2). I don't see any mention of "Site24x7 Applog Agent" windows service being created on any Windows agent release. The fact that this feature is listed as "Beta" on the web application is a bit troubling. You have customers installing these agents on production servers and in essence you are installing beta quality code onto our servers without us having the option of not installing the feature when the updated agent gets installed. Is there something I'm seeing about this?

With "Site24x7AppLogAgent" you can upload your server logs to Site24x7 and view, search, and troubleshoot them from our Client.

We will never update beta quality code to our production. This feature is currently in beta, our backend capacity to handle heavy logs input and its searching capability is being tested.

"AppLogAgent" will automatically discover the application logs in your server and suggest you the same in the Site24x7 Client. Only if you enable this, we'll start to upload the logs from your server to the Site24x7 Agent, until then the agent will be in an idle state.

You can always disable Applogs by navigating to Admin --> AppLogs --> Settings in your Site24x7 Client.

Hi, last thursday (Feb. 8) there was an update because of a vulnerability on the APM Agent. Is there any more info about this? I checked the link but there's only information about the Server Agent, not the APM Agent. Also some information about the security vulnerabilities would be useful.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback and we're sorry that we didn't include more details in the advisory. The issue could, under a specific condition, result in high outbound traffic in the server where the agent is deployed and there by resulting in poor performance.

Note that the issue affects only a narrow segment of customers who downloaded 3.6.0 version of the agent. We had an immediate patch, 3.6.1 to stop the issue from spreading to more customers. However, releasing it with a major version (3.7.0) was delayed a few days due to our release schedule. Hence, we sent out the advisory only to those customers who were using 3.6 version of the agent.

We will soon make our release notes publicly visible, so that you can track the agent enhancements.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. We are mostly concerned because the agent is something we have to install on the web servers, and knowing exactly what we are installing or why it was updated can be critical in some scenarios.

Security updates about the server agent, apm agent and other plugins would be extremely useful, more so for companies in certain sectors like health and education that require strict controls on what goes on each server.

Thanks for the help!
