Changes to Add Network Device (single device) not showing Display Name as Resolved Name

Recently the Add a network device has changed

One of the useful features  of the old process (network discovery)  was that you could add a single network device  (by specifying the same start and end ip address)

The reason why this was useful was that part of the discovery, the resolved network device name  would appear in the display name.

If this didnt occur then this would point to a network configuration issue which could then be investigated.

This feature no longer is available for adding a single device. You are now forced to enter a device name rather than let it detect it.

If you specify a range and perform a discovery then there is no issue, devices are added with the resolved display name.

would it be possible to remove the limitation of not being able to specifiy the same address for start and end network discoveries.

Hi Sherron,

Thanks for pointing this out.

We understand how the earlier discovery flow helped validate DNS resolution by allowing a single IP (with the same start and end ranges) and automatically populating the display name. This was particularly useful for identifying potential network configuration issues early.

We will address this in an upcoming update by reenabling support for specifying the same start and end IP during discovery. Additionally, the new discovery flow will allow adding a device using just the IP address, without requiring a manually entered display name, so the system can resolve and assign it automatically.
In the meantime, you can continue using the earlier discovery flow as a workaround.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. It is a significant usability gap, and we will work to fix it at the earliest.

Best,
Rama
