Inventory and Notes section.

For any given monitor there is an Inventory and Notes tab.  Inventory provides what one would expect, however I cannot locate how you would add notes here.  Ideally we would be able to add some more detailed description on how to troubleshoot that specific monitor and system.  Perhaps link to relevant documentation on an internal KB.

I've looked for docs and forum posts on this and only found one doc detailing just the following.

"Inventory and Notes:

This section captures the basic monitor information and also its various configuration settings including polling locations, poll interval, licensing type, and more."

How do I add notes here and does the above scenario fit this feature?

Thank you,
K

Hello,

Right now, the "Inventory and Notes" will help you to only view the monitors configuration. We do have a plan to provide an option to add the notes and it will be available in any one of our future updates. Please bear with us.

Hi K,

Notes section shows the comments that have been added by system or by you for an outage of the monitor. You can add comment to an outage using the "Edit Comments" option in the hamburger icon next to the outage entry in "Outage & Trouble Alerts" tab.

You want to add some general note about the monitor which is not supported as of now. We will take it up in future based on requests and priority.

Thanks,
Thillai

Thank you for the reply and clarification.

Community, let's get some up-votes here!!  I'm sure everyone would love to have a note field for monitors.

Cheers,

It would be really useful if we could have a notes/comments/description field associated to each monitor.

Is this something that you are still not considering as a feature?

As my colleague, Thillai mentioned, we do have plans to provide supporting notes at a Monitor Level.

We also have plans to support adding tags or labels to a monitor. Tags specifically would help identify roles of the monitor and we could even provide filtering and viewing monitors based on the tags set. This could be something more flexible than the Monitor Group concept that is already present in Site24x7.

We will try to post a prototype (screenshot) when ready on how this may look.

Hello,

Do you have any estimated delivery date for this feature?

Thanks,

@Gibu, @Thillai, can you provide any update? do you have an ETA?

Hello,

There is no ETA available with us right now.

However we are considering this feature as important one and will be including this as part of any of our upcoming milestones.

We are already started working on next two milestones which will take a month to release. We will be able to add this requirement part of our next milestone after the above releases.

We will keep you posted on feature availability once we have included in the milestone.

How can I write some "notes" in a URL monitor? I want to write a short blurb of text about what to do when it fails, etc.. Just a simple text block field would be adequate..

Hi Everyone, please thumb up (vote) on this topic so that it gets more visibility!

What we do is to create an email template and a notification profile. In the email template you can add the text you want in the body or setup an internal wiki and place a link to the troubleshooting page with the instructions.

There really is no need for a notes section

We are going to add a new “Description” field in monitor creation form. You can give multi-line text with basic font styling. This description will be shown in Inventory tab of monitor dashboard. You can use this field for storing more information about the monitor and passing basic debugging steps, to be followed in case of an outage, to other team members . This feature will be available in a month’s time.

We have introduced new Alarms tab in our recent update. This page will list all your current down and trouble monitors with details about the outage. You can assign technician to each alarm and add comment in alarm dashboard. These comments can also be viewed in outages tab of monitor details page.

While you use alarm comments for discussing an outage inside your team, use our new “Announcements” feature in Status Pages to update your customers about an outage. Open Home- Status Page and click Add Announcement button. You can set a title and description and how long you want to show the announcement. This announcement will be shown in prominent top section of the status page until the time you have configured. Announcement history can be seen at the bottom of the status page.

Thillai ... I don't see a way to create announcements. Is this something that is still being rolled out?

Hi framirez,

Announcement feature is supported only on the Layout 1, not on the older layouts. Switch the layout to "Layout 1" by editing the status page.

To add announcement, go to Home - Status Pages. Select desired status page from the dropdown at the top right corner. You can see the "Add Announcement" button inside the status page (screenshot attached).

on https://www.site24x7.com/app/client#/home/status-page, this is what I see:

On the actual status page I created this is what I see...

Hi framirez,

Sorry, missed your reply. Are you still facing this problem? This looks like a problem in specific case. Can you please drop a mail to our support for further analysis?

Hello folks,

While our customers have long been able to add public comments as part of monitor outages, there wasn't a way to add contextual notes for monitors. With the addition of Inventory notes, users can now easily add multi-line text content as notes under the inventory tab of the monitor's details page. Users can create, edit, or delete a note for any monitor. We support Markdown syntax, which is a simple and widely used formatting syntax. Inventory Notes make it quite simple to add custom content such as text, code blocks, links, block quotes, lists, and more. Site24x7 users with Super Admin and Admin roles will have sufficient privilege to add, edit or delete a monitoring note. Other users that are associated with a monitor will be able to view all the related notes regarding that monitor.

Various use cases for Inventory Notes:

  • Add all your debugging steps that were used to troubleshoot an outage in your monitor. You can pass this information to your DevOps and support teams to help them quickly resolve such issues in the future if it recurs.
  • You can post critical comments about an outage incident of your monitor, including specific details about the incident, why it occurred, when it occurred, and more.
  • Share a relevant supplementary report link or external link, such as a GIT repository with your team.

Other available options to add comments.

  • Add notes to your Milestone Markers.
  • Add alarm comments in Alarms View to discuss an outage inside your team. These comments can also be viewed in outages tab of monitor details page.
  • Apart from the monitor outage comments, you can also make Public Announcements as part of your Status Page.
